Congrats Nita Ambani for New York’s MET museum honours, three times when Shloka Mehta’s mother-in-law earned exceptional accolades

Filmmaker Karan Johar on Wednesday took to social media to congratulate Nita Ambani after the New York’s iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art elected her to its board as a trustee. She has become the first Indian to sit on the MET museum’s board of trustees.

Sharing a photo of Nita Ambani with Daniel Brodsky, Chairman of the Board, Daniel Weiss, President & CEO and Max Hollein, Director, Karan wrote, “Congratulations #NitaAmbani on being the first-ever Indian Trustee of the @metmuseum. A philanthropist, an educationalist and an ardent supporter of Indian art, you make us so proud!”

In the photo, Nita Ambani was seen standing with Daniel Brodsky, Chairman of the Board; Daniel Weiss, President & CEO and Max Hollein, Director on the occasion of her election to the MET museum’s Board of Trustees.

Reacting to her latest honour, Nita Ambani said that it was ‘deeply rewarding’ for her over the past several years ‘to support The Metropolitan Museum of Art in its desire to expand and enhance its program of exhibiting the arts of India.’ “I have been moved and impressed by The Met’s keen interest, which enables our commitment to seeing Indian art and culture represented on the global platform. This great distinction inspires me to redouble my efforts on behalf of India’s heritage, from the ancient to the contemporary,” news18 quoted her as saying.

Nita had arrived in New York in her chartered plane. Celebrity makeup artist Mickey Contractor shared the photo of India’s richest woman standing next to her chartered plane at the New York airport.

This is not the first time Nita Ambani has received an honour for her philanthropic work.

In 2017, the mother-in-law of Shloka Mehta and Anand Piramal received the prestigious Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award from the President of India for the work of Reliance Foundation that she’s the chairperson of, in the area of sports for development. In 2016, she found her name in the Forbes’ list of the 50 most powerful businesswomen in Asia.

In 2016, Nita Ambani was elected as an independent member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Among Indians, Ambani had become the first woman and the third Indian to become a member of the IOC after the late Sir Dorabji Tata and Raja Randhir Singh.
