Muslim pregnant woman in Jharkhand ‘denied’ treatment, ‘blamed’ for coronavirus spread; loses child after being allegedly abused and assaulted

A Muslim pregnant woman in Jharkhand has written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren alleging that a hospital in Jamshedpur refused to admit her because of her faith and was physically assaulted by on-duty hospital staff. Worse, Rizwana Khatoon alleged that the woman hospital staff made her clean the blood from the floor before hurling her abuses using her religion and thrashing her with slippers. She later moved to a nursing home, where doctors informed her that she had lost her baby.

Chief Minister Soren has asked the DC East Champaran and his Health Minister Banna Gupta to investigate the matter. However, there has been no update on the investigation as yet.

In her letter to Soren, the victim wrote that she rushed to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur on 16 April after bleeding started. “I reached the MGM Hospital with my brother. Since I was bleeding, the blood drops began to fall on the floor where I was standing. A woman staff, she could be a nurse or a doctor and whose identity can be established from the hospital’s CCTV footage, began to abuse me using my religion,” she wrote in her letter.

Rizwana alleged that she was told to wipe the blood from the floor, adding that she could not do so because she was shivering in pain. This, according to her, prompted the woman hospital staff to thrash her using slippers. She was also allegedly blamed for the spread of coronavirus.

Rizwana said that she then moved to a private nursing home where she lost her child.

Reacting to the development, Soren tweeted, “DC East Champaran, take note of the matter and launch a probe. Identify the guilty and take stringent action against them.” He also tagged his Health Minister Banna Gupta asking to take notice of the grave allegation.

Gupta also instructed DC East Champaran to ensure that action was taken as per the law.

Hilarious twist to Arnab Goswami’s debate as Republic TV founder promises to allow Sambit Patra’s critics to chop BJP spokesperson into pieces

Arnab Goswami’s debate took a hilarious twist on Sunday after Republic TV founder promised to allow Sambit Patra’s critics to chop BJP spokesperson into pieces. Goswami thundered, “I will not spare you Sambit.” Arnab Goswami launched a tirade against those who he called were the cynics of the nationwide lockdown to fight the spread of coronavirus in India. Moderating a special edition of his TV debate, Goswami said that the cynics were failing in their attempts to indulge in fear-mongering against the lockdown. But, the debate became hilarious after the Republic TV founder announced that at least five critics of Sambit Patra will be given an opportunity to chop the BJP spokesperson into ‘tiny little pieces.’ And if that was not enough, Goswami heaped more embarrassment on Patra by declaring that he was no good in a TV debate even when he joined via Skype connection.

Promising to not spare Patra, Goswami told the BJP spokesperson, “The point being made is Sambit, listen. Charity begins at home… BJP MLA celebrates his birthday (in violation of lockdown). You didn’t throw the guy out of the party. So Listen. I am here on a Sunday strongly supporting the lockdown. However, I will not spare you Sambit if your party, the ruling party of India, is giving itself the unnatural flexibility to change the rules.”

Right at the beginning of the show, Patra was making a point in defence of his government’s decision to impose a nationwide lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus pandemic in India. At least five of the 12 guests taking part in the debate wanted to counter the BJP spokesperson when Goswami intervened, “Sambit vs five. Wait a minute,  All five of you. Let Sambit complete and all five of you can chop him into tiny little pieces.”

Goswami then shifted his attention towards Patra and said, “Sambit, you complete for God sake. I mean Sambit, you are bad enough in the studio, you are worse on a skype connection. Continue.”

Patra asked Goswami to not worry about him as he proceeded towards placing his version of the truth out in the open.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had first announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown last month, which was expected to end on 14 April. However, Modi announced a further extension of 19 days in his third address to the nation last week. The current lockdown is expected to end on 3 May if Modi doesn’t extend it further.

Patra had famous said last year that he owed his fame to Goswami.

Indian Idol judge Neha Kakkar reveals secrets to deal with taunts on short height weeks after jokes by Kiku Sharda of The Kapil Sharma Show

Indian Idol judge Neha Kakkar has revealed secrets on dealing with taunts on her short height. Neha, who took to Instagram for a live show with brother Tony Kakkar, said that the current nationwide lockdown had made her learn many new things about life. This came weeks after she faced jokes by Kiku Sharda of The Kapil Sharma Show about her short height.

Indian Idol judge Neha Kakkar

Neha said, “I have grown a lot in this lockdown period. Grown not in terms of age but experience.” The famous Bollywood singer said that she learnt to appreciate God’s gift. She told her fans to not worry about what appeared to be shortcomings in life.

“You need to convince yourself that you are the most beautiful person. So what I have a short height. I know that I am the most beautiful person. And this is the approach you should also have,” Neha said in her Instagram live, which saw several lighter moments.

One light moment was when Neha asked her brother to translate rini (indebted) in English. But Tony ended up pronouncing in Urdu Qarzdaar, leaving Neha in splits.

Neha had to face jibes for her short height particularly in December last year when Kiku Sharda of The Kapil Sharma Show and comedian Gaurav Gera made fun of her short height in a spoof video. In a strongly-worded message, Neha had expressed her displeasure at both Kiku and Gaurav mocking her height and looks.

Her hard-hitting social media post had read, “Shame on these people for creating such negative and insulting content! My people know how much I appreciate comedy on me and otherwise but this one is ridiculous! Stop using my name, stop enjoying, dancing and acting to my songs if you hate me so much. Thankless people.”

Neha said that she enjoyed the Instagram live adding that she was not meant to join her brother, but decided to pleasantly surprise Tony. Tony said that this unpredictability made Neha Kakkar a star.

The famous Bollywood singer is popular for the songs Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12, Kala Chashma, Kar Gayi Chull, Manali Trance and Dilbar Redux.

“COVID-19 does not see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or border before striking”: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that COVID-19 pandemic did not ‘see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or border before striking.’ The prime minister said in a Linkedin post that ‘we are in this together.’ His statement came amidst several incidents of religious discrimination against Muslims by medical staff while treating patients from the community dominated headlines.

COVID-19

PM Modi wrote, “COVID-19 does not see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or border before striking. Our response and conduct thereafter should attach primacy to unity and brotherhood. We are in this together.

“Unlike previous moments in history, when countries or societies faced off against each other, today we are together facing a common challenge. The future will be about togetherness and resilience.”

On Saturday, a cancer hospital in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh came under widespread condemnation after it placed a newspaper advertisement announcing that it will not admit Muslim patients. Faced with condemnation and police action, the hospital was forced to issue a public apology.

The ministry of health in the government headed by PM Modi too has come under criticism for routinely blaming the members of the Muslim religious group, Tablighi Jamaat, for the spread of the deadly virus in India.

According to the health ministry data, 507 people have died of coronavirus with the country reporting 12,974 positive COVID-19 cases. India is currently going through a prolonged period of nationwide loncdown, which is expected to end on 3 May.

MHA changes rules on e-commerce again, says ‘supply of non-essential goods by e-commerce companies to remain prohibited during COVID-19 lockdown’

The ministry of home affairs has changed its rules on e-commerce after 20 April saying that ‘supply of non-essential goods by e-commerce companies is to remain prohibited’ during the current lockdown till 3 May.

e-commerce companies

In its new order issued to chief secretaries of various states, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla wrote, “Vide Order of even number dated 19th April, 2020, clause 14(v) of the consolidated revised guidelines, relating to E-commerce companies has been excluded. In this regard I would like to clarify that while operations of e-commerce companies for non-essential goods stands prohibited, however they will continue to operated for essential goods as has been allowed earlier and continue to be allowed under clause 13(i) of these guidelines.”

The same message was further reiterated by the spokesperson of the Indian ministry of home affairs.

Many expected the resumption of e-commerce activities since the last revised guidelines of the MHA had said that they will be allowed to operate from 20 April. Reacting to the MHA’s new rules, Amazon India said that it will hit small companies adversely. “New guidelines barring delivery of non-essentials by e-commerce will disappoint consumers, small businesses, manufacturers,” PTI quoted Amazon India as saying.

Praveen Khandelwal, Confederation of Indian Traders’ Secretary-General, told news agency “More than 40 lakh traders are supplying essential goods since lockdown came into effect. Side-lining and ignoring them, e-commerce companies have been allowed to deliver non-essential goods from April 20.”

The news will come as a huge setback to millions of consumers, who had begun preparations to buy goods using e-commerce platforms.

While issuing detailed guidelines, the MHA had said that passenger train and air services continue to be banned until 3 May. There will be ban on all social, political, sports, religious functions, religious places, places of worship shall remain closed for public.

MHA issues fresh guidelines banning inter-state movement of migrant workers

The Indian ministry of home affairs has issued new guidelines restricting the movement of migrant workers stuck in different parts of the country due to the current lockdown. The new guidelines came just a day after the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to transport its students from Rajasthan’s Kota district triggered a huge controversy.

In its new guidelines, the MHA said, “It may be noted that there shall be no movement of labour outside the State/UT from where they are currently located.”

It went on to add, “The migrant labourers currently residing in relief/shelter camps in States/UTs should be registered with the concerned local Authority and their skill mapping be carried out to find out their suitability for various kinds of works.”

The UP government had recently sent around 300 buses to get around 2,500 students stranded in Kota in Rajasthan. This had irked the Bihar government after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar angrily said that the move will defeat the objective of the nationwide lockdown.

Nitish Kumar’s former party colleague Prashant Kishore had questioned his criticism for the UP government’s move saying that his own government had given special permission to bring the son of a BJP MLA from Kota.

Kumar’s detractors slammed him accusing him of hypocrisy since he had done little to bring Bihari migrant workers stuck in different parts of the country.

Nitish Kumar is a BJP ally and is running the state government in Bihar with the help of the saffron party.

In its latest guidelines, the MHA said that the stranded workers in different parts of the country could be engaged in ‘industrial, manufacturing, construction, farming and MANREGA works in order to facilitate their movement within the State/UT.’

Kiku Sharda of The Kapil Sharma Show makes big revelation about Krushna Abhishek after issuing stunning apology to Archana Puran Singh

Kiku Sharda of The Kapil Sharma Show has made another big revelation about Krushna Abhishek after issuing a stunning apology to the show’s co-star Archana Puran Singh for demeaning jokes on her. Kiku, who had to face scathing attack from Indian Idol judge Neha Kakkar last year, said that Krushna was the craziest among all his co-stars on The Kapil Sharma Show.

Kiku Sharda

When asked to name the person, who was the ‘maddest’ on the sets of the TKSS, Kiku told Times of India, “This is a very tough question to answer because everyone is mad on the sets of TKSS. Sab ek se badhkar ek hain… Krushna I would say because I have shot with him a lot during the second season. But again Chandan, Sumona, Bharti everyone is mad and they all do interesting things.”

While Krushna plays the character of Sapna, a beauty parlour girl, Kiku has popularised the characters of Achcha Singh and his twin brother Bachcha Singh. Kiku and his co-stars from the TKSS have been forced to stay indoors for over a month due to the nationwide lockdown to spread the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

In the same interview with the TOI, Kiku had also issued a stunning apology to Archana if ‘if she ever felt bad by his jokes on her.’ He had said, “It is like when a group of friends meet they pull each other’s leg and crack jokes and no one gets offended because that’s the kind of bond they share. Our bond with Archana ji is the same and she doesn’t mind it all. But with due respect if ever she has felt bad we would like to say sorry.”

Archana has often been a soft target of Krushna, Kapil, Bharti and Kiku on The Kapil Sharma Show. However, she has never taken offence to jokes being cracked at her expense. Kapil has always teased her by accusing her of carrying two crocodiles while returning home to Madh Island. Archana had posted a video of her journey back home to prove Kapil wrong. Since then, her off-the-cuff videos on Instagarm have become a rage of sorts on social media.
